Big 5 Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park

Not only is Hluhluwe Mfolozi one of Africa’s oldest proclaimed game reserves, it’s also the most famous of Natal’s reserves. You can make a half or a full day excursion with a guide through the park or you can go in your own car. The park, with its fantastic hilly landscape, plays host to all of the Big 5, and you’ll have the chance to spot lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and buffalo among other animals.

ISIMANGALISO WETLAND PARK TO CAPE VIDAL

This World Heritage site is not to be missed. Expect to enjoy amazing views of Lake St Lucia, the Atlantic Ocean as well as the multi-coloured sand dunes. You can view the rhinoceroses, hippos, waterbuck, kudu, hyenas, leopards, zebra, and a variety of birds. You can drive through iSimangaliso using your own vehicle, or alternatively, book a guided tour through the park. 

TURTLE TOURS

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park is one of the few places in Africa where you can witness one of the oldest of nature’s rituals; turtle nesting and hatching. From 1st November to end of February the giant leatherback and loggerhead turtles come ashore on the beaches to lay their eggs. This magical experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

WHALE & DOLPHIN WATCHING

During the months of June through to November, Humpback whales pass along the coastline of the Elephant Coast and St Lucia during their annual migration from their feeding grounds in the Antarctic, past South Africa, to breed and calve off the coasts of Mozambique and Madagascar. On a whale watching tour, you can expect to see these magnificent creatures, as well as dolphins, in their natural habitat.

Birding safaris

Birds are a vital indicator of the health of an ecosystem. 13181 birds were noted in 17 areas of the St Lucia lake, including 2599 white pelicans and 34 fish eagles. Enjoy guided or self-guided routes near St Lucia. With such a high quantities of birds, you bound to stumble upon some epic photographic opportunities.
